If you’re dealing with foot pain, it’s easy to zoom in on the exact spot that hurts—your heel, your arch, your big toe. But, foot pain is about how your whole body works together.
But at Juniper, we don’t just look at where it hurts. We look at how your foot functions—and how it connects to everything above it because your feet are your foundation. And when that foundation isn’t working well, the rest of your body has to compensate.
We Look at Function, Not Just Structure
You might have been told you have “flat feet,” “high arches,” or “plantar fasciitis.” But here’s the truth: How your foot moves matters more than how it looks.
Your feet are meant to:
- Adapt to the ground
- Absorb force
- Create stability
- Propel you forward
When those abilities are limited—whether from stiffness, weakness, or lack of coordination—pain often follows. That’s why during a physical therapy evaluation at Juniper, we don’t stop at your foot.
We Evaluate the Entire Kinetic Chain
Your foot doesn’t work in isolation. We assess:
- Your ankle mobility (especially dorsiflexion)
- Your calf flexibility and strength
- Your knee alignment and control
- Your hip strength and stability
- Your walking and movement patterns
We get curious about the kinetic chain because foot pain is often the result of something happening higher up. When we understand how your body works together, we can treat the root—not just the symptom.
Building Naturally Strong Feet
We believe your feet are designed to be strong. To get there, we’ll work on:
- Restoring mobility in stiff joints (especially the big toe)
- Improving foot strength and coordination
- Reintroducing natural movement gradually
We often incorporate principles from gait-focused education (like Gait Happens), emphasizing:
- Foot awareness and control
- Toe strength and dexterity
- Proper load through the foot during walking
Sometimes we’ll recommend tools like toe spacers to help restore alignment and function.
And yes—we love barefoot work. But we also respect the process, especially if your feet have spent years in supportive or narrow shoes.
Hands-On Care That Goes Beyond Exercise
Exercise is essential—but it’s not the only piece to helping you feel better and move stronger.
At Juniper, we also:
- Mobilize stiff joints (like the ankle and big toe)
- Use manual therapy to address tight or restricted tissues
- Offer techniques like dry needling when appropriate
- Use Cannivera muscle gel massage for recovery and tissue health
This combination helps your body move better and feel better—faster.
Footwear, Orthotics, and Support
We’ll talk about your shoes—because they matter. Our goal is to help your feet do more of the work themselves. That means:
- Choosing footwear that supports natural movement
- Using orthotics or arch supports when needed—but not as a lifelong crutch
- Building strength so you can rely less on external support over time
Advanced Technology to Support Healing
We also integrate advanced tools to help accelerate your progress:
NEUBIE Footbaths
Used for:
- Neuropathy
- Post-surgical recovery
- Improving circulation and nerve activation
These sessions help stimulate the nervous system and reconnect your brain to your feet.
TECAR Therapy (Winback)
A comfortable, non-invasive treatment that:
- Reduces pain and inflammation
- Improves circulation
- Promotes tissue healing
It’s one of our favorite tools to help you feel relief while we work on the bigger picture.
Custom Exercise = Long-Term Results
Every foot is different. Every body is different. That’s why we don’t hand out generic exercises.
Your plan is built specifically for you—based on:
- Your mobility
- Your strength
- Your lifestyle
- Your goals
Because real, lasting change comes from doing the right work—not just more work.
Our Goal: Help You Avoid Surgery When Possible
We know surgery is sometimes necessary. But in many cases, there’s another path.
By improving how your foot and body function, we aim to:
- Reduce pain
- Restore movement
